While Jammu and Kashmir led the way with the highest pass percentage in the northern region, Chandigarh sailed to national glory with three of the all-India toppers from the city in the Class 12 results declared by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Students of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a pass percentage of 91.73 per cent, which was highest among all five states in the northern region, followed by Himachal Pradesh with 88.92 per cent, Haryana with 84 per cent, Punjab with 82.9 per cent and Chandigarh with 79.3 per cent.

As many as 1.7 lakh students appeared in the examination from the northern region, of which 65,185 passed recording a pass percentage of 83.7. Girls outdid the boys with a pass percentage of 89.6 per cent while boys were at 79.4.

City girl Bhumi Sawant, a non-medical Science student from DAV School, Sector 8 Chandigarh did the city proud emerging as the second topper with 99.4 per cent. With a score of 100 in three of the subjects, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, and 97 in English, Sawant says she wants to pursue higher studies in Computer Science.
