CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 dates, allotment of marks, internal assessment - Important updates students must know

Amid the rising coronavirus COVID-19 cases across India, the Central government recently decided to cancel the CBSE Class 10 Board exams 2021 and also decided to postpone the CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2021. 

Later, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that the students appearing for Class 10 Board Exams 2021 will be promoted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to the next class based on a special criterion. 

For its part, the CBSE said that the this would be “an objective” criterion and the CBSE will soon share the details of the exact criterion. Union Education Minister Pokhriyal said that class 10 students will pass based on “internal assessment”.

“Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams,” Pokhriyal said.

The CBSE Class 10 students, however, are still anxious and they want to know how they will be promoted and what evaluation criteria the CBSE will lay down to allot them marks.

It may be recalled that in 2020, when some of the CBSE Board papers were held during the pandemic and many were cancelled, a similar pattern was followed for allotting marks to students. Students who appeared for three or more papers were given marks based on the average of the highest marks obtained in any three subjects they have appeared for. 

Meanwhile, Minister Pokhriyal had announced on Wednesday (April 14) that said that the fresh dates of CBSE Class 12 exams will be announced after June 1. The Minister had also clarified that the CBSE will gove a notice of at least 15 days before the start of the examinations so that there is no inconvenience to the students.
