CBSE Board Exams 2021: Students to now get a second chance to improve in exams

Under the National Education Policy, CBSE has decided that students must be given multiple opportunities to improve their performance in board exams.

The Central Board of Secondary Education in a huge breather for students has issued a notification, according to which class 10 and 12 students will now have a second chance to appear for improvement papers in order to improve their scores.

As per the earlier rules students who wished to appear for improvement exams had to wait for one compete year to sit for the exams with a batch younger. However, under the new rule, CBSE will now allow students to appear for improvement exams within the same year.

Under the National Education Policy (NEP), CBSE has decided that students must be given multiple opportunities to improve their performance in board exams.

Under the recommendations made in the NEP, students will now be offered the following opportunities by the CBSE:

-The students of Class 10 and 12 will be given the opportunity to improve their performance only in one subject in the Compartment Examination, conducted immediately after conduct of main examination.

-Better of the two marks obtained in the subject will be considered for declaration of results.

-Candidates who will improve their performance will be issued combined mark sheet.

“This permission will be made available to the candidates appearing in 2021 examination and if they wish to improve their performance in any one subject they may again apply in the Compartment Examination for appearing to improve their performance,” read a statement by CBSE.

However, in case student wishes to improve in more than two subjects they need to appear in the examination as per the old rules.

In addition to this, to make board exams amid the pandemic stress-free for students, CBSE has reduced the syllabus for all subjects by 30% for board exams 2021. 

Further, to make exams low-stake under NEP, the board has decide to increase the number of MCQs or application-based questions by about 10% every year.

CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 are scheduled to begin from May 4, 2021. The exams for Class 10 would end on June 8 and for Class 12 on June 14. The CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 date sheet is available on cbse.nic.in.
