The Covid-19 pandemic has put a big cloud over the upcoming Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for classes X and XII next year. Most schools have been conducting classes virtually since the pandemic broke in India back in March of this year and now Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ will hold a live online discussion with students', parents and teachers on December 10 to share how the planned board exams will take place.

The Education Minister will address all concerns during a live interaction via Twitter and Facebook on Thursday (December 10). Pokhriyal said that everyone can raise their concern and even make suggestions over the conduct of the CBSE exams as well as other competitive exams like NEET and JEE.

Usually, the CBSE announces the date sheet for the board exams in November and conducts Class 10th and 12th board examinations in February and March every year. The year 2020 has been different due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic and CBSE officials have publicly stated that discussions are still on to decide the appropriate dates for conducting these exams.

“Dear all, 2020 has been a year of a great many changes like adjusting to #onlineeducation, adapting to #newnormal. Happy to share that I am going live on Dec 10 to talk about upcoming competitive/board exams with you. Drop your concerns below using #EducationMinisterGoesLive,” Pokhriyal tweeted on Wednesday (December 2).

Last month, CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi had confirmed the board exams will be held in 2021 and dates will be announced soon.

“The board exams will happen for sure and a schedule will be announced very soon. The CBSE is making plans and will soon reveal how it will do test assessments,” he said during a webinar organised by ASSOCHAM.

Earlier this week, the CBSE ruled out that the Board examinations will be held online. In its statement, the CBSE has clearly ruled out the possibility of online exams and said that they would be conducted in written mode only.

“The exams, as and when they are be conducted, will be in written mode and not in an online mode. The exams will be conducted following all COVID protocols.” the CBSE statement read.

The Education Minister has already encouraged everyone to drop their concerns using #EducationMinisterGoesLive hashtag and all eyes will now be on Thursday’s (December 10) session, when the minister could make some important announcements.
