The hostility is assumed to have sprouted from the difference in their religions
Tension prevailed in west Delhi's Khayala area after a 23-year old man was allegedly killed by the family members of a woman he was dating. The hostility is assumed to have sprouted from the difference in their religions. The police have arrested the woman's father, maternal uncle and minor brother.
Ankit Saxena and the 20-year-old woman had been in a relationship for three years, despite her family's objection.
Saxena, a photographer, was on his way to meet the woman when her family caught sight of him in Raghubir Nagar and a verbal spat followed. "He was then attacked with a knife. Since the two belong to different communities, police force has been deployed in the area," said a senior police officer.
Saxena's mother was also beaten up when she rushed to the location, and it was her who took him to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw. He was fatally stabbed in the neck and declared dead on arrival.
"We were supposed to get married," said the woman. "I was going to meet him when I heard he had been attacked by my family with a knife."
A case of murder has been registered, and the body was cremated under heavy police presence.
