In a spate of recent lynching incidents, a shocking one emerged on Saturday, where a man was lynched by a woman in Kavi Nagar police station area of Ghaziabad. The incident had taken place nearly a week ago, however, the video surfaced only on Saturday. The deceased man was allegedly accused of using lewd language while speaking to a woman.

The modus operandi of the deceased was to lure women who were in search of a job. Once the women contacted him, he used to have obscene chats over the phone. Taking matters into her own hands, one such woman planned to teach him a lesson.

The police said that the woman met the accused and brutally thrashed him. DNA has footage in which the woman can be seen thrashing the accused with a stick. Not sparing him, she stood on his chest as well. In the video, locals can be seen urging the woman to let go of the accused but the woman continues to beat him.

The police have booked three persons for lynching. One person has been arrested while the hunt is on to nab the other two culprits. Ghaziabad superintendent of police, Akash Tomar, said that the incident had taken place nearly a week ago and that the accused succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Padam Singh, who lived in Badalpur area in Gautambudh Nagar district. He was thrashed in Lal Kuan area, which falls under the Kavi Nagar police station area of Ghaziabad district.

While the search is on to nab the woman, the police have arrested the woman's husband. An FIR has been lodged in the matter.

"When the woman was beating the accused, a few locals also gathered at the spot. The police was informed about the incident and a team managed to reach the spot and rescued the man. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

However, during the course of treatment, he succumbed to his injuries. We have recorded statements of the locals as well. We are probing the case from all angles," a senior police officer said.

"The three accused have also been booked under the SC/ST act. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against the absconding woman," said SP Akash Tomar.

Analysis

Acting upon earlier complaints filed by women, if the Ghaziabad police had taken appropriate measures against the accused for sending obscene messages, an incident of this scale could have been averted.
Locals witnessing such incidents also need to alert the police quickly, rather than being mere spectators.
