The Capital has been on a short fuse with people being killed for petty issues or on a sudden provocation.

In some cases, passersby or people who have absolutely nothing to do with the scuffling parties have fallen prey to the deadly game.

A trend of mob fury --- wherein an individual is attacked by a couple of people and later more people join the latter out of nowhere --- is following suit.

What is even funnier is that even as an individual is on the verge of death, there are some who capture the incident on their mobile phones but do nothing o help the person. The videos later go viral on social media.

"Social behaviour sciences over the years and decades have understood four major reasons behind this. Firstly, it is the urban stress in relation to career, coping with daily issues, life, stress; secondly, people have lost faith in the system which also coincides with the third point which is the impact of movies, social media. Fourthly the immunity that a crowd provides is also what people like, its a crowd and you just don't think it is you who is doing this," said Nimesh Desai, Director, Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences

The police said that in cases of mob attack initial investigations sometimes take time. A senior police official, citing the example of the recent Swaroop Nagar incident in which a woman was thrashed and disrobed on suspicion of stealing said, "The woman was thrashed on suspicion but the people do not realise that disrobing her publically is a crime itself. The public is doing the job of the police and the court. A mob has no direction and neither do they fear the law," said a senior police official.
