Two women arrested for extorting from man in Delhi's Najafgarh

Two women have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from a man by threatening to press false rape charges on him from Najafgarh on Saturday. Police said that the two were arrested after they obtained permission from Metropolitan Magistrate.

According to the police, they had received a complaint from a 40-year-old man, a resident of Narela, who alleged that he was robbed by two women on Friday afternoon while he was returning home from Kapashera.

Police said that the victim in his complaint alleged that on Friday afternoon when he reached near Samshan Ghat in Sector 18 of Dwarka, the two women alluded him for physical intimacy to which he agreed. Later when he went to a nearby forest area they threatened to press a false rape case against him and extorted Rs 8,000 from him.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at the Dwarka North police station under Sections 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft), 389 (putting person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion), 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian penal code.

"In course of the investigation, the two ladies, both residents of Najafgarh area, came to light after which they were apprehended. During interrogation, both confessed to the crime and were arrested in this case after obtaining permission from the Ld MM," said a senior police officer.

Sources said that the there is a gang working on the same modus operandi of alluding people and then extorting money in the name of implementing false rape charges.

"Through our sources, we had come to know that there have been 20/30 such incidents, however, there were no complaints regarding the same as the complainant feared to say it openly. There is a group of women who alluded people and then extorted money and they are suspected to be from the same area," said a senior police officer.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
