The special cell of the Delhi police arrested two men in a case of drug peddling on Friday. The accused have been identified as a 30-year-old Ikram and a 35-year-old Arvind Rana. The two were nabbed during a raid conducted near the Commonwealth Games Village with six kilograms of heroin worth nearly Rs 24 crore.
The accused procured the drug from the leader of the cartel in Bareilly and later supplied to various cities in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and across Delhi. According to the police, both belonged to farmers' families. It was in an attempt to live a lavish lifestyle that they were lured to drug peddling.
"The accused are school dropouts and have been peddling drugs for about ten years now. During interrogation, they told us that the drugs were procured from Bareilly and later sold in neighboring states," said Pramod Singh Kushwah, deputy commissioner of police, special cell.
The team had received a tip-off about the trade which was set to take place under a flyover near Commonwealth Games Village. The team then raided the spot and arrested Ikram and Arvind from the place and got two kilograms of heroin each from their possession, while another two kilos of heroin was recovered in the car which they had been using to peddle drugs.
"We had a tip-off about both of them coming to Delhi to deliver a consignment of heroin, upon their arrest six kilograms of heroin was recovered along with the car used in the commission of the crime," added Kushwah.
