Stalker hacks woman to death, surrenders

A week after being jailed for stalking a 22-year-old woman and harassing her, a man hacked the same woman to death in full public view on Wednesday evening in Ghaziabad’s Modinagar area.  

The family of the victim has alleged sheer carelessness on the part of the police, saying that no security was provided to their daughter despite a police case. The family has demanded stringent action against the accused and persons who didn’t take the case seriously.

Police said that the accused, identified as Sachin Sharma, after committing the crime produced himself, carrying the weapon used in the crime, at the police station.

Priyanka, the deceased had lodged an FIR against Sharma at Modinagar police station for stalking and harassing her, and he was released on Saturday from the jail. The family claimed that Priyanka had mentioned in her complaint that the man was harassing her since, she got married last year.  

According to the police, on Wednesday, Priyanka was attacked with an axe while she was returning home from a tailor shop. She sustained injuries on several parts of her body, including her neck, chest and stomach. Due to the injuries and massive blood loss, she died on the spot.

The deceased’s uncle, Ram Bharose Lal said that on February 12,  the accused Sachin Sharma had sent a message to Priyanka with the picture of a pistol to threaten her. 

“Priyanka got married to Sandeep (26) in Loni on April 17 last year. She had come to her parents’ place in Modinagar’s Govindpuri area, 10 days ago to appear in the Class X UP board examinations. Police should have kept an eye on Sharma. Our daughter became a victim of the carelessness of the police but now we want them to take care of all such cases,” said Lal.
