The victim was identified as Vipin Bihari Verma, a resident of Shiv Niwas Apartment in Sector 53. The incident took place near the Kanchanjunga market around 6.30am.

"My father had gone to buy milk as usual. Around 7 am, we received a call from the government hospital. The authorities informed us that a body had been brought in," Kumar Mayank, son of the deceased, said.

He added: "When we made inquiries about the incident, locals told us that the school bus was overspeeding and my father got stuck under its left back tyre. The bus ran all over him. Within seconds, he was lying on the road in a pool of blood."

The bus belonged to the Evergreen School in Vasundhara Enclave. The school authorities said they had no clue about the driver as all buses were being operated by a private travel agency, working on a contract basis.

Eyewitnesses said the driver tried to flee from the spot but was nabbed by the police. The victim was rushed to a Super Speciality Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Rajeev, Circle Officer-2, said a case has been registered against the driver. "The body has been sent for post-mortem," he said.
