"I did not expect that I will be able to continue with studies after my father met with that accident in 2008 and left bed-ridden. My mother started working as a domestic helper to support our family," said Kumar, a student at Shaheed Hemu Kalani Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Lajpat Nagar.

Kumar, who wants to become a government officer in future, has many feathers in his cap as he excels in music as well. "I had music as a subject in Class X and I love singing," he added.

On being asked about the reaction of his family, Kumar said, "They are really happy, I'll be leaving my hometown in Haryana."

Similarly, the family of Diya Takyar who has scored 9.6 CGPA despite suffering from acute focus problem with Tunnel vision by birth, was on cloud nine after knowing the result of their daughter. "Never ever in our dreams, we had thought that she would perform so well. We are so proud of her," said her father Sunil Takya.

"She has only 10 per cent vision in the left eye and practically does all the work with the help of right eye which also has tunnel vision. Basically, she has impartial vision. We have provided her full support and guidance," said Ameeta Mohan, Principal of Amity International School, Pushp Vihar.

Breaking all stereotypes, Neetu Jha, daughter of a daily labourer, scored a perfect 10 CGPA in Class X. "We could not even think of getting her into a good school. I earn 150-200 rupees a day and can't even provide my children proper food. She made it perfect 10 CGPA in those circumstances as well," said her father Suman Jha. Jha managed to get scholarship to study in Amity International, Noida.
