South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has introduced new technology wherein waste can be carried away to the dumping sites seamlessly saving almost Rs 461 crore within a span of eight years.

On the eve of World Environment Day on Sunday, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal flagged off a new fleet of Mobile Transfer Stations and auto tippers that will transport waste seamlessly from dumping sites to landfill sites.

Appreciating the corporation's bid make the Capital a dust free city, the L-G said, "The scientific collection, systematic segregation of the garbage, compressed volume of the garbage, dumping of less quantity of garbage and providing enough scope for recycling will provide an excellent opportunity to convert waste to wealth to the SDMC."

Stating that the new technology was an important step towards achieving a Swacch Bharat, SDMC Commissioner PK Goel said "The new fleet will also facilitate an A to Z waste management in West Delhi thus adding to the cleanliness in the city. Furthermore, the new set up will be able to practically enforce complete a check over open dumping; burning waste, waste spillage during transportation to the waste to the energy plant. It will also ensure that there is no manual handling of the waste."

The new infrastructure aims to bring a visible change in the primary collection, secondary storage and secondary transportation in addition to promote the concept of Reducing, Recycling and Reuse of waste.
