At the end of a cat and mouse chase that lasted 12 years, the special cell of the Delhi Police has arrested two key members of the Sonu Daryapur gang who were said to be running the gang's operations after his arrest. "The accused have been identified as Vijay Sehrawat alias Lamba (38) and Sanjay Lakra alias Sanjay Mundka (47). The duo had been untraceable for the last 12 years. They were involved in the murder of a police official and under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). There was a Rs 2 lakh cash reward for the arrest of each of them," said Pramod Kushwah, DCP, special cell.
Sleuths of the special cell said the duo had been frequently changing their hideouts and were also planning the eliminate the witnesses in cases against their gang members. Moreover, they were also extorting money on behalf of the gang.
Giving out details of the arrest, the police said it received information that the duo would be in possession of illegal weapons while planning to commit a heinous crime. At around 10.30 pm on Friday, they were intercepted while traveling in a grey i10 car, which was stolen from east Delhi's Badarpur area.
"A .38 bore English Revolver Webley and 10 cartridges of .38 bore were recovered from Vijay, while a loaded .32 bore pistol with eight cartridges was recovered from Sanjay. Their car contained a .32 loaded pistol with 5 live rounds and 107 live rounds of .32 bore cartridges," Kushwah said.
Lamba is the son of a retired police officer and graduated from Delhi Univeristy. In his youth he was into wrestling and exercising, and came in contact with Sonu Daryapur while working out at the local akhara.
