The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi Anil Baijal has directed Delhi Police to train its officers in soft skills to improve the public interface. He has asked the force to set up its own online portal for receiving and monitoring public grievances. The meeting headed by L-G was attended by Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and other senior officers of the force on Thursday.

In the meeting, the Delhi Police officials explained the public grievance redressal system. L-G pointed out the need to have postpaid feedback forms to make sure the department gets appropriate suggestions from the general public to improve their services.

"Specially designed task oriented post-paid feedback forms should be used by Delhi Police so as to have an objective assessment which could form the basis of further modification as per the needs of the society," said Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal.

The L-G also asked the Delhi police to set up its own online portal for receiving and monitoring public grievances which could allow the general public to reach all levels in the department. This would make the process more transparent.

Informing about the present system, the senior officials of Delhi Police made a detailed presentation of the written and online complaints received through various sources. The presentation added that every written complaint received at headquarters or district level from individuals or various authorities is entered in a digitalised Complaints Monitoring and Tracking System (CMTS) module.

"Public Facilitation desks have been set up in police stations to provide a conducive atmosphere to the public. Their task is to listen to the grievances with courtesy and empathy and to guide the complainants to appropriate police officers for redressal. At present, 160 territorial police stations have this mechanism," said a senior police official.
