The early bird incentive has spurred tax collection and when compared to last year the collection has gone up by more than 20 crore, it is learnt.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has seen a hike in property tax collection till June 2017, as compared to collection in the corresponding period last year.
The early bird incentive has spurred tax collection and when compared to last year the collection has gone up by more than 20 crore, it is learnt. As per the data provided by SDMC, it has manged to collect Rs 80 crore from the 1,60,000 tax payers; while Rs 60 crore was collected till June 2016 last year. The department is offering 15% rebate on full payment of property tax for the current year before June 30, 2017.
The SDMC had collected property tax of Rs 900 crores during financial year 2016-17 from nearly 4,50,000 tax payers. In order to collect property tax, SDMC will be soon launching its door-to-door survey of all properties. The survey will begin in July and will continue till upcoming nine months. SDMC is hopeful that this exercise of door- to-door survey will help to bring all properties in the tax net and will boost the revenue collection further. As per the DMC Act, all building and vacant land are liable to pay property tax. As the statement released by SDMC, there are at least 12 lakh properties which are liable to pay property tax.
A senior official of SDMC said in a statement, "We have already collected all the details of properties in Delhi from different sources and also have enough material to determine the use of land."
