Taking the objective of smart policy forward, the Delhi Police on Friday inaugurated the E-Malkhana of Rohini district which is the third district to have been able to achieve this. With the Malkahana being digitalised all the case properties will have their bar-coding, packaging in boxes, an arrangement in order in proper shelves/ sheds. This marks a leap for Delhi Police towards the achievement of the objective of digitalising the force.

The top court had earlier pulled up the Delhi Police and had asked them to assure that the goods and vehicles stored at Malkhana and police station are removed.

Rohini has become the third district after South-East and Shahdara to achieve complete digitisation of Malkhanas in all its 11 police stations.

DCP Amulya Patnaik launched E-Malkhana project of Rohini district at a program held at KN Katju Marg police station.

"E-Malkhana project will pave the way for the handling of case properties in a more professional manner as it is a mix of both software and process re-engineering solution using modern day inventory management system. The data of the case property is first entered in the E-Malkhana software. After which a picture of the object is uploaded alongside the diary entry number. The information is then processed by the software. A unique barcode ID is generated by the software," said Rajneesh Gupta, DCP (Rohini)

Malkhana is a room for keeping seized arms and ammunition.

"The maintenance of Malkhana has always been a priority to keep the case property in safe custody and its retrieval for presenting before the court, and back safely. After digitisation, it would be easy to retrieve the case property and would also save our time and energy," said Amulya Patnaik.

"The project will pave the way for the handling of case properties in a more professional manner," he added.

A short film on the concept and implementation of E-Malkhana system was played at the programme. The staff of the Malkhanas of the other three police stations were also communicated through video conferencing. Patnaik released a training manual hand-book on awareness of the staff deployed in Malkhanas.
