Incessant rain on Thursday afternoon brought the Capital to a standstill as massive waterlogging led to traffic jams across the city and the national capital region. Thunder and lightning brought sudden downpours to the entire region around 1 pm, catching commuters unaware.

The Safdarjung Observatory recorded 59 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours with maximum temperature remaining 32 degree Celsius and minimum temperature at 27 degree Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted moderate rain activity on Friday as well which will bring down the minimum temperature by two degrees, at 25 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature will remain unchanged.

The forecast for the weekend also shows moderate to light rainfall. Parts of Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad received spells of rain on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, Delhi once again bore the brunt of poor civic infrastructure as traffic snarls at major roads dampened the spirit of the monsoon. Even though the weather became pleasant and people got relief from humidity, heavy rainfall threw life out of gear.

Main roads like Dhaula Kuan to Cariappa Vihar, Parade Road, Bhagwan Das Road, Lodhi Road saw traffic jams due to heavy rainfall in the afternoon. Parade Road reported slow traffic movement by 30 minutes in the afternoon while Savitri flyover on the way to Nehru Place and Modi Mill U-turn near Okhla suffered massive jams due to water logging.
