Police officials, from top ranking to low ranking officers carried out a patrol in the Rohini district in Outer Delhi area with some results. Police officials said that around 703 persons with criminal backgrounds were checked while a wanted criminal was arrested. Officials also said that headway was made in a 13-year old attempt to murder case.
The patrol called a 'gasht' was carried out from 12am on Friday till 4am on Saturday. It involved 771 police officers of all ranks patrolling their specific areas in the district. Police officials also roped in people from the recently launched Prahari scheme which aims at bringing in persons such as local guards, and sweepers which help police in maintaining law and order in the area.
"224 prahrais participated during night patrolling. In all six illegal firearms, another absent wanted criminal of the area was arrested, 104 vehicles without proper documents was seized, 25 vehicles with tinted glasses were fined and 151 'bad characters' having active previous involvements were checked, verified and interrogated," added Pal.
On the attempt to murder case police officials stated that Suresh, 36, had in 2004 attempted to kill one of his distant relative on the suspicion that he was harassing his wife. Suresh hails from Begu Sarai and had even gone to his village to arrange for a pistol in order to eliminate Manoj.
"He however changed his plan at the last moment and threw acid at him. He (Suresh) then fled the city after the crime and returned and opened a tea stall," said DCP, Rohini, Rishi Pal.
"When he (Suresh) realised that Manoj was alive and had survived the attack he again decided to eliminate him. He was arrested before he could execute the plan and a county made pistol was recovered from his possession," he added.
The general Gasht carried out by the North-West district district police under the guidance of DCP, Milind Mahadeo Dumbre resulted in no incidents of snatching and robbery from 12am and 4am on Saturday. During patrolling 11 persons including a wanted criminal was arrested. As many as 74 history sheeters were checked and 238 persons were detained under section 65 of Delhi Police Act.
