"The incident took place at 1 pm when a group of women entered a liquor shop, took out around two dozen cartons of liquor bottles and dumped them on the road," said Dinesh Yadav, Superintendent of Police (city).

The police has so far arrested six people and further investigation is still on. "We have registered an FIR against 40 unknown people out of which six have been arrested. We are further investigating the case," Yadav added.

The women said they will not let the liquor shop run within the residential area as it has caused nuisance and people drink openly.

"After 7 pm, many people come here and drink in the open and create nuisance. It becomes really unsafe to pass through this lane. The police never come to this area for patrolling after 6 PM," said Kamla Kumari, a local.

The police has registered an FIR under IPC sections 147 (Punishment for rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 343 (Wrongful confinement for three or more days), 395 (Punishment for dacoity), 436 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50 or more).
