Noida: Residents get notice for protesting landfill work

Owing to the repetitive protest by Noida Sector 123 residents against the construction work of the dump yard in the area, the Noida Authority issued a notice to some residents and villagers on Saturday to maintain law and order.

According to the police, they had found several persons interrupting and protesting against the construction of landfill, which is against the law. The Noida Authority had started the work on the dumping site next to the proposed waste-to-energy plant amid tight security.

"We have received a list of 36 people who have been protesting and causing issues which lead to the disturbance of public peace. Following this, we have issued notices under Section 107/116 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to file a bond of Rs 50,000 as promise to maintain peace during the construction of the landfill which will take six months to a year's time," said Mahender Singh, City Magistrate, Noida.

Police said that if people do not follow the orders and try to disturb the peace or work, then strict action will be taken against them. The administration has also implemented Section 144 of the CrPC, which addresses the unlawful assembly, in the district.

The residents of the surrounding sectors and villages had been opposing the construction of the landfill, as they felt that the landfill will cause serious health problems.

"We are going to take out a massive march against the Noida Authority soon and we will not let them build the landfill in this spot," said a resident.

BOND OF PEACE

The Noida Authoity issued notices under Section 107/116 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to file a bond of Rs 50,000 as promise to maintain peace till the construction work of the landfill is complete.
