According to the police, Roshni was alone in the house at the time of the incident as both her parents, who are tailors with a garment company at Noida Sector-6, had gone to work.
An 18-year-old girl committed suicide on Friday in Harola village of Noida Sector-5 for failing the Class 12 final examination. The police identified the deceased girl as Roshni and said that she was a student of the National Institute of Open Schooling.
According to the police, Roshni was alone in the house at the time of the incident as both her parents, who are tailors with a garment company at Noida Sector-6, had gone to work.
"The parents found the main door locked from inside when they returned home in the evening. On looking through the window, they saw their daughter hanging from a ceiling fan. A commotion followed and the girl was brought down later by some of the neighbours," said a senior police official from Noida Sector-20 Police station.
The family and the neighbours then took her to Kailash Hospital at Noida Sector-27, where the doctors declared her dead on arrival. The police later reached the hospital and sent the body for post-postmortem examination.
Roshni's father, Ram Kinkar Mandal informed that her daughter had flunked the 12th standard examination last year too, and had gone missing for several hours then. According to him, she went into depression and used to cry frequently thinking about the results.
"But this year, she prepared well and seemed satisfied after the examination was over. She was expecting a good result. But when the results came out, she could not stand failure again and took this extreme step," Mandal said.
Roshni's body was handed over to the family on Saturday morning after the post-mortem examination. She was cremated later in the evening in the presence of her family members, friends, and neighbours.
