Union Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari has written a letter to Delhi BJP president and Member of Parliamnet from North East Delhi Manoj Tiwari to inform him that his ministry has approved the development of Akshardham-Geeta Colony-Shastri Park-Khazuri Khas-Delhi/UP border road under Bharatmala for decongestion of Delhi. The road has been declared as NH 709B,he said on Thursday in a tweet.

I have received your requests on a number of occasions for taking up the development of Akshardham-Geeta Colony-Shastri Park-Khazuri Khas- Delhi/UP Border section under Bharatmala for decongestion of Delhi. This road has now been declared as National Highway No. 709B. I have given instructions for implementation of this road on top priority, he said in the letter.

This road will be developed as 6-lane access controlled road with service roads on both sides. Further, from Akshardham to EPE intersection, there is a provision of 19 km of elevated section, which would help in minimizing acquisition of land and segregation of traffic, he added.

THE COST

Entire project involves development of 155 km of national highway at a cost of Rs 4,405 crore. For the section that falls in Delhi is 14.75 km, the estimated cost of the road is Rs 1,100 crore.
