A 30-year-old woman and her 8-month-old daughter were critically injured when a Swift car rammed into them on Wednesday. The woman was taking the baby to hospital for a check-up. Though both of them survived, their condition was stated to be critical till late in the evening.

According to the police, the woman, identified as Tasbira, and her daughter Rubina, were crossing the GT Road in the Bhalswa area of Northwest Delhi. Witnesses said a speeding Swift crashed into them and threw them meters away.

"Both sustained severe head injuries and were admitted to hospital. There condition is stated to be critical. The driver has been arrested. He had to apply emergency brake and it resulted in a pile-on of vehicles on the highway," a senior police officer said.

A case under relevant sections has been registered against the driver and the vehicle has been seized. Police are also checking the CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events and further investigation is on.
