The national capital will have to wait for few days as monsoon has lulled after spell of showers last week on Thursday. The weatherman has forecast rain only by Wednesday. Till then the weather will largely remain hot and sultry.

The city has been reeling under humidity and heat since Friday. On Sunday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees above season’s average. The minimum temperature was also one degree above normal, settling at 38.5 degrees Celsius. The humidity level in the morning was 62 per cent while in the evening, it was 45 per cent. The sky remained clear through out the day 

The meteorological department has predicted thunderstorm with rain on Tuesday which will bring down the temperature by few notches in the coming week. Mercury is expected to come down to 36 degrees following the rain on Wednesday. Rains are likely to lash the city on Thursday too which will reduce temperature to 34 degrees Celsius, according to the forecast. Residents, meanwhile, are waiting for the rains to arrive in full glory, hopeful of some respite from the hot conditions. “We have been waiting eagerly for monsoon. The summer has become unbearable,” said Shikha Sachdeva, a resident of Saket.

Major disaster was averted on Thursday when a large portion of the metro railing fell on a train running between Lajpat Nagar and Jangpura, due to heavy rains and wind. The accident occurred with Disaster the Faridabad-bound Violet Line metro at around 4:05 PM, disrupting services for almost three hours during peak rush hour. No casualties were reported. 

Metro officials had gone on record saying the railing fell due to sudden high wind pressure. Anuj Dayal, executive director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said authorities will investigate the incident for further safety considerations.
