The mob went violent against the victim after a woman raised alarm around 2:30 am alleging that when she was standing outside a Jhuggi near Mangolpuri railway station, four unidentified men came on a scooter and snatched her mobile phone.

In the meantime, locals gathered and held two of the men while others managed to escape, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi) M.N. Tiwari said.

"Amidst scuffle, the second robber also managed to escape, leaving behind one of their aides, later identified as Ramesh, who was then brutally thrashed by the public. By the time police reached the spot, the man had already been taken to the hospital where he was declared dead," said a senior police officer.
