The Gautam Budh Nagar police has traced the last location of the Kashmiri student, Ehtesham Bilal Sofi (19), who went missing from Sharda University, Greater Noida on Sunday. According to police, his last location was traced to Pulwama district in South Kashmir. The student's family claimed that he informed them that he was heading back to his hostel in Greater Noida on Sunday afternoon after which they have not been able to contact him.

J&K former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti had tagged home minister Rajnath Singh in her tweet and urged the government to trace Sofi.

According to the police, after receiving a missing complaint, they tracked his phone and learnt that his last location was Pulwama.

"We have shared this information with the J&K police but the J&K cops could not establish his present location," said a senior police officer.

During investigation, it was confirmed that he took a flight to Srinagar and his phone was on till 4.30 pm on Sunday. Sofi's father who lives in Srinagar had called him at that time after which his phone went kaput. Sofi's father Bilal Ahmed said, "He planned to send me photos of the places he visited. When I called him around 6.30 pm his phone was switched off," he said.

"The police have informed us that his last location was Pulwama. We just hope he is safe," he added.

Station House Officer, Knowledge Park Police Station, Arvind Pathak said the police were probing the case and were in contact with their counterparts in Srinagar. On Sunday, Ehtesham had sought permission from the university officials to go to Delhi around noon but did not return since. The family members asked the college administration to lodge a missing complaint in Delhi.

Cops confirmed that video CCTV footage confirmed that he took a flight from Delhi to Srinagar the day he went missing. Sofi was assaulted in a case of mistaken identity at the university on October when a scuffle broke out between Indian and Afghan students on the campus.
