Men snatch accountant’s bag with Rs 8 lakh in Noida

Two unidentified bike-borne men snatched a bag from a 27-year-old accountant outside the ICICI Bank in Sector 18, Noida on Wednesday afternoon. Police said that the bag contained cash worth Rs 8.20 lakh. 

According to the police, the victim, Bipin Roy, an accountant with a software company EBIX Software Pvt Ltd in sector 82 of Noida, was waiting for his cab after withdrawing the cash from company’s account.

“The incident took place at around 12:30 pm, while Roy was talking on the phone and holding the cash bag in another hand when two bike-borne criminals snatched the bag. However, when he tried to resist the bid, he was pushed away and they fled the spot,” said Arun Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), Noida.

Police said the victim received some scratches on his right hand. Locals informed the police about the incident and senior police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation.

“We have registered a case under the relevant sections of loot and robbery. The victim has stated that the faces of the two assailants were covered. We will scan the nearby CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, the Noida’s trader’s association blamed the police for lack of security and patrolling in the posh sector 18 market.

“Despite a police post, there is lack of patrolling in the Sector 18 market which makes it very vulnerable to such robbery and other criminal activities. There are CCTV cameras installed at some points but nobody monitors them,” said Sushil Kumar Jain, president, sector 18 trader’s association.

PAST IMPERFECT

On April 5, a similar incident was reported from the same spot in Sector 18. In that case, police arrested five persons on April 12 for falsely claiming robbery of Rs 8 lakh. These people alleged that their money was robbed just outside the bank.
