Delhi BJP staged a protest outside Banga Bhawan, criticising the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal for unleashing atrocities on its party workers.
As tension escalated between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the killing of a Dalit BJP worker in the state, the Delhi wing too sprung into action. Delhi BJP staged a protest outside Banga Bhawan, criticising the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal for unleashing atrocities on its party workers.
Led by Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, national BJP secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, former MP Mukul Roy, demonstrators raised slogans against Mamata Banerjee. Addressing party workers, Vijayvargiya said, "Ms Banerjee, who initiated a democratic movement against Marxist violence, has left behind the Marxists in government-sponsored violence. The sacrifice of Dalit worker Trilochand Mahato will not go in vain, and a democratic government will soon be established in Bengal soon."
He also praised the 'courage' of all BJP workers who were working in Bengal despite the 'hostile' environment. Calling it a sorry state of democratic affairs, he said, "We have great respect for Mahato and hundreds of party members who have become victims of the violence unleashed on them by the TMC government. We pray to God that such violent acts in the land of great litterateurs like Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and others, come to an end," the BJP leader said.
20-year-old Mahato was found hanging from a tree in Purulia's Balarampur with a message inscribed on the back of his T-shirt, allegedly accusing him of supporting the BJP. On Saturday, another body of 32-year-old Dulal Kumar was found hanging from a pole in Dabha village of Purulia's Balarampur. The BJP had alleged that he was a worker who paid the price of being with the party.
