A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly choking his wife to death in Bisrakh area of Greater Noida as he suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon while the accused was arrested on Wednesday and has been sent to jail.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Aaqil, who chocked her wife Iqra to death after having a heated argument.
"On Tuesday afternoon, Aaqil had a heated argument with his wife as he used to suspect her of having an extramarital affair. Suddenly, Aaqil lost his cool and chocked her and raised an alarm. When the neighbours arrived at the spot, Aaqil fled stating that he suspects her lover to have committed the crime," said a senior police officer.
The locals informed the police about the incident. A police team reached the spot and rushed Iqra to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead on arrival. Police said when Aaqil did not return on time, a team was formed to nab him.
"The locals informed us that the couple used to fight almost every day. When till late night, the husband did not come back and his phone was also not reachable, so we started doubting him. A team was formed and he was nabbed on Wednesday," said a senior police officer.
During interrogation, Aaqil revealed that they got married three years ago after which they started living in Greater Noida.
"From the last few months, Aaqil had started doubting his wife to be involved in an extra-marital affair and his anger reached its peak yesterday when he finally chocked her to death," said a senior police officer.
However, according to the complaint filed by the deceased's family, the accused killed Iqra for dowry.
"A case under section 304b (dowry death) and 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code. Aaqil has been sent to jail," said a senior police officer.
