The Delhi Police arrested a 30-year-old man for suspected necrophilia on Saturday evening. A city court has sent him in to judicial custody and asked the jail authorities to conduct his medical as well as psychological examination.The case came to light on Saturday evening, when a passerby spotted the accused, identified as Anil Kumar, having unnatural sex with the corpse of a woman along the banks of Yamuna in front of the Sarai Kale Khan bus stand. He immediately informed the police, who reached the location and apprehended Kumar red-handed.

Police said Kumar used to work as a labourer and but had been unemployed for some time. He was also a drug addict and possible psychologically unstable.Sources said the accused claimed he knew the woman from before and did not realise that she was dead. She, however, seemed to have been smothered to death. His claims are yet to be verified. Meanwhile, a case under sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Sunlight Colony police station. Further investigation is underway.
