Man murders wife, son in Jahangirpuri

A man allegedly bludgeoned to death his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old son and then slit their throats with a sharp knife at their home in the Jahangirpuri area during the early hours of Tuesday. 

Police said the husband is suspected of murders as he is absconding. The couple’s 5-year-old son witnessed the gruesome killings and is the only witness, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place during the early hours and came to light around 9 am when the two other kids of the couple managed to exit the house and call the neighbours. The neighbours immediately called up the police control room and a crime and forensics team arrived on the spot.

“While the woman, aged around 30 years was lying on the ground, with her throat slit and wounds on her head and face, the baby’s blood-drenched body was also lying nearby. When enquired, the 5-year-old boy told the police that the father killed their mother and the baby boy. When the police team enquired about the father, identified as Om Prakash, a painter by profession, it was found that he is absconding,” said a senior police officer.

Police said CCTV footage from the area is being checked to find out if someone else entered the house early morning on Tuesday. It is also being checked if the husband fled the house after killing the duo.“A case of murder has been registered and important evidence has been collected. Initial probe revealed the couple often had fights over the family’s financial condition and had other disputes,” he added.

Police said they have also arranged for counsellors for the two kids who survived, one of them being the witness. The security has also been significantly stepped up as police suspects that the killer father may return to eliminate the witness, an officer said.
