The killer had an illicit relationship with the woman and when she tried to distance herself from him, he could not tolerate it and killed her, says police
The Gautam Budh Nagar Police arrested a man who had killed a 26-year-old woman in Noida three days ahead of the New Year's Eve, by slitting her throat in Chhijarsi village on Sunday.
Police said that the killer had an illicit relationship with the woman and when she tried to distance herself from him, he could not tolerate it and killed her.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Vinod Kumar, who works in a sports goods company in Sector 63. Kumar was absconding since the day of the incident. He was arrested following a tip-off.
"We got information that Kumar was hiding in Chhijarsi village following which we planned to nab him. On Sunday morning, a team reached the village and nabbed him," said Rajiv, Circle Officer -2, Noida City.
During interrogation, he revealed that he had an illicit relationship with Shweta Singh, a housewife, who lived in the same building as he did.
"He revealed that from the past one year he had been visiting their house and had good relation with Shweta's husband. He used to visit their house often. Later, he developed feelings for Shweta and approached her. They both got into an illicit relationship. However, a few months later, the woman lost interest in him, so he was hurt and tried to get close to her,"Rajeev added.
Police said on sensing that she was trying to distance herself from him, Kumar decided to eliminate her. "On the day of the incident, Kumar had taken off from his office as he wanted to clear things between them. After Shweta's husband left for work, he reached her house. Later, he tried to woo her and when she resisted, he slit her throat with a knife and fled from the spot," stated Rajeev.
Police have arrested him under section 302(murder) and sent him to jail. On 28 December, Shweta Singh was found dead with her throat slit inside her house. Police said Shweta's husband, Pankaj Singh has named Kumar, their neighbour as the prime accused in the murder as he claimed that Kumar had wrong intentions towards his wife.
