Leopard spotted, captured in Greater Noida village

Panic struck among the residents of Sadullapur village when they spotted a leopard in the area Sunday morning. The leopard was captured after a two hour long operation by the zoo authorities from Delhi and Meerut. A similar incident was witnessed two days ago when a wild animal was spotted in Greater Noida.

According to the forest official, a call was made at around 10 am to the Ecotech police station by the former head of the village following which a police team and forest officials were immediately sent to the spot. "Few men from the village informed me about the leopard. I immediately called the Station House Officer," said Pappu Pradhan, former head of the village.

According to the police, they immediately rushed to the spot as their was a similar threat two days in Bisrakh. "As I reached, almost the entire village had gathered in front of a field where the leopard was allegedly sighted. People informed us that it went to farmhouse situated at around 500 metre distance from the spot," said Anita Chauhan, station house officer at Ecotech 3 police station. Police said that it also came to notice that a man in his thirties had a narrow escape as the leopard ran past him and but only managed to tear his trouser with his nail.

According to District Forest Officials, they reached the spot at 1 am and spotted the wildl animal at around 11:15 am when it came out from the farmhouse. "I immediately informed the Chief Forest Conservator. We had to arrange cage, safety net, forest vehicle, tranquilizer gun etc to begin with the rescue operation of the leopard," said PK Shrivastava, District Forest Officer.

He further added that the operation started at around 4 pm with five trained specialists from Delhi zoo and SOS wildlife Meerut. "The leopard was successfully captured in the cage by the animal catchers. He will be let free in Shivalik forest near Saharanpur" said Shrivastava.
