Kotla Mubarakpur murder: Gun used in Taimoor Nagar murder leads to one more arrest

Arresting one more accused, from Ahmedabad, in the murder case of Kotla Mubarakpur, the South Delhi district police have claimed to solve 28 cases of crime including — two murders, 18 robberies, and five car-jacking cases.

In a dramatic turn of events, it was the gun used in the Taimoor Nagar murder case that helped the police to solve the Kotla Mubarakpur murder, where a cab driver was shot a mere 500 metres away from a police station. In the Taimoor Nagar murder, a father was shot in front of his children.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Akash, a sharp-shooter belonging to the Rohit Chaudhary gang, Suraj Choudhary, Ajay Rathi, and Bunty.

"On October 2, a man had committed a robbery at a dhaba on gunpoint. He stole cash from the dhaba owner's cash counter, and also stole a gold chain and a mobile phone. The accused also fired 2-3 shots which caused minor injury to some. The dhabh employees tried to chase the robber. But, he managed to flee, by robbing a bike at gunpoint, towards Maidan Garhi. In the process, he also fired one shot in the air before robbing the bike," said Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police, South.

Police teams analysed CCTV footages of nearby areas. It also came to light that a similar incident had occurred a night ago and the criminals had used the same modus-operandi.

"A team working on the information laid a trap and arrested two people later identified as Akash and Suraj. Police recovered two pistols and seven live cartridges, Rs 42 thousand, phone, and a bike were recovered from their possession," Kumar said.

During their sustained interrogation, they confessed to have committed a series of car-jackings, robbing gold ornaments, and leading the sensational Taimoor Nagar murder case.

"Later, their associate, Ajay Rathi was apprehended. During the preliminary interrogation, Akash disclosed to have committed murder at Taimor Nagar along with associate Akash Tyagi aka Akki and Ajay Rathi. After further information, police arrested one of their associates, Bunty Grover from Ahmadabad on October 11 and brought him to Delhi," said Kumar.

During the questioning, it came to light that the gun used in both the cases and the modus operandi used in the murders were almost similar. They also disclosed their involvement in the murder of a cab driver in Kotla Mubarakpur.

"On September 8, three men Akash with his associate Akki and Bunty were drunk when they had a scuffle with the cab driver, Umesh, to move their car. During the scuffle, Akash came of the car and fired at Umesh," said Kumar.

The next day the accused got to know that the victim had died and they planned to flee the city. In order to make quick money, they started committing robberies in quick successions.

"We have formed teams to nab Akki, who is absconding at the moment Further investigation is in progress to find out their culpabilities and extent of involvement in other cases.
