A group of youths stabbed an elderly man and his son after an argument, leaving the duo critically injured, in north Delhi's Jakhira area on Sunday afternoon. Police said both victims are out of danger and one of the accused, a juvenile, has been apprehended.

According to witnesses and locals, the victims worked as labourers. Around 1 pm, victim Iqbal, 60, had an argument with a youth over some petty issue and he ended up slapping the boy. This sparked a heated argument, which soon turned violent. 

Then Iqbal's 22-year-old son Dilshad rushed to the spot to intervene but was attacked by the juvenile and some of his friends.

DCP (north) Jatin Narwal said: "The matter was reported around 1 pm from a slum area in Jakhira. We came to know that two persons had been stabbed by a group of juveniles. When we visited the area, we found that Iqbal and his son Dilshad had sustained stab injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger."

Officers said that based on the primary probe, raids were conducted and one of the juveniles involved in the matter was apprehended.

"Efforts to trace others are being made and CCTV footage from the area is being checked to ascertain the sequence of events. A case of attempt to murder has been registered and the matter is being probed," he said.
