NGT Chairperson Justice UD Salvi reiterated its December 20, 2016, order in which it had ruled that any airline that dumped human waste mid-air would have to pay Rs 50,000 as environmental compensation.

The NGT's order came while disposing of a petition filed by Lt Gen (Retd) Satwant Singh Dahiya that had alleged that aircrafts were dumping human waste before landing at the IGI airport. "We dispose of this application with the reiteration of our December 20, 2016, order. The direction shall be complied without default," the bench said.

The ex-army officer had alleged that his house was dirtied due to the dumping of human waste mid-air.

The petitioner contended that the dropping of human waste from aircrafts was in violation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and a threat to the health of the residents.
