Dismissing the speculations, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that there would be no lockout in the national capital given the third wave of COVID-19 as it is already at its peak.

ANI quoted Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain saying, "The lockout in Delhi will not have any effect. I don't think it will be an effective step now. Wearing masks by everyone will be more beneficial."

Satyaveer Jain said that the third wave of COVID-19 had crossed its peak in Delhi.

On Sunday, 3,235 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Delhi, the lowest since October 26, which raised the infection rate to over 4.85 lakh in the national capital, while positivity increased to 15.33 percent.

Earlier on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a meeting on the issue of rising COVID-19 cases in the city. Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, and Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain were also present at the meeting held at North Block. Soon after the meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, Arvind Kejriwal said to the media that the central government has promised the Delhi government to provide 750 ICU beds at the DRDO COVID-19 centre.

"The big problem now is related to ICU beds. We have seen that after October 20, coronavirus cases have begun to surge rapidly. Covid-19 beds are available. But ICU beds are exhausted quickly. The Central government has given assurance that 500 ICU beds will be made available at the DRDO centre and 250 more beds in the coming time. We are also increasing ICU beds at Delhi government facilities," the CM said.

He further said that COVID-19 cases in Delhi started to rise after October 20 and though there is an ample number of beds for corona patients, the requirement is for ICU beds. He also said that the government is aiming at conducting one lakh covid tests daily.

"Around 60,000 tests are being conducted daily. We have to increase it to over 1 lakh test. ICMR has assured us to help. All facilities of the Delhi government are functioning at its full capacity," Kejriwal further added.
