Integrated system to improve hospital services

Soon, the Delhi government will develop a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) which will integrate all the government hospitals, polyclinics and mohalla clinics. The idea was floated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday in a review meeting of working of all the hospitals in the Capital. 

Chief Minister Kejriwal directed the Health Department to develop the most modern HMIS of an international standard to integrate all the Delhi government hospitals, polyclinics and mohalla clinics. He said that this would do away the long queues and crowds at the government hospitals and enhance the patient experience at these institutes hugely.

“Implementation of the HMIS will not only digitise all the government health facilities but it will also create huge facilities for the incoming patients. The new system, which was proposed in the meeting, will also take care of the 360-degree facilities for the patients, like appointments/availability with doctors, etc through a centralised call centre, online appointments, medicines, telemedicine and redesigning of different infrastructural facilities, including OPD and pharmacy,” the chief minister said. 

The dedicated call centre will facilitate the patients and guide them to nearest hospitals. Refurbishing of the out-patient department (OPD), pharmacy, labs and patient attendant lounges will also be a part of the proposed system.

The task of designing a proposal in this respect has been assigned to the health minister and chief secretary. They will together work out a detailed proposal to integrate all the government hospitals, polyclinics and mohalla clinics in the Capital.

The OPD timing in the government hospitals is from 8 am to 2 pm. The earlier timing was from 9 am to 1 pm, thus an extension of two hours for consultation at the hospitals.
