Groom shot at during marriage procession in south Delhi's Madangir area

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Badal, who after completing the wedding rituals, was again admitted to the hospital.

Merely 500 meters away from his wedding venue, a 25-year-old groom was allegedly shot at by two miscreants during his wedding procession in south Delhi's Madangir area on Monday night. Police said that he received a bullet injury and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. However the victim returned to his wedding after initial treatment to complete the rituals.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Badal, who after completing the wedding rituals, was again admitted to the hospital. Police further said that the bullet was stuck between the collar bone and the doctors are taking a call on the surgery.

"The wedding procession, which started from Khanpur, was hardly half a kilometre away from the venue when the incident took place around 10 pm. The groom was on a carriage while his relatives were and guests were dancing on the road," said a senior police officer.

In his statement given to the police, Badal said that two men approached from the procession, climbed on to the carriage and fired at him on the right shoulder.

"It took him time to assess the situation as to exactly what had happened. By the time he started to feel the burns and blood flowing from his shoulder, the assailants had escaped. He himself got off the carriage, informed his parents who rushed then him to the hospital where his treatment continued for as long as three hours," said a senior police officer.

Police said that they have registered an attempt to murder case has been registered in connection with the matter.

Some guests who witnessed the entire incident told the police that the attackers had come on a bike, which was later, found parked near the incident spot.

"Through CCTV footage we have identified two suspects. We are also probing personal enmity since Badal was involved in a case of attempt to culpable homicide," said the officer.
