The Gautam Budh Nagar police have arrested one more accused in the alleged Rs 126 Crore land scam at Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority from his residence in sector 44 of Noida on Thursday.
In June, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) submitted a complaint with the police regarding the scam against 21 persons including an IAS officer who was a former CEO with YEIDA, PC Gupta, at Kasna police station of Greater Noida. Gupta was arrested earlier while 19 are still on the run and teams are trying to nab them.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Ramesh Bansal, a director at one of the companies from whom the YEIDA had acquired 57.15-hectare land at an inflated price in Mathura that actually had no utility, was on a run from the last six months.
"We got a tip-off from our informers that Bansal would be visiting his residence following which a raid at around 7:30 am was conducted and he was nabbed from his house," said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer- 1 Greater Noida.
Police said that it came to light that seven companies with the help of senior officers of the YEIDA had done the alleged fraud.
"Bansal was the director of one of the seven companies, Data Infrastructure Pvt limited, which were identified for the alleged fraud. The companies were allegedly owned by the relatives and friends of the then CEO. They purchased the unnecessary 57.15 Hectare of land which was later acquired by the authority at an inflated price," said Sharma.
Police have arrested the accused under section 420 (Cheating) and the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Indian Penal Code.
According to Arun Veer Singh, CEO YEIDA said that they will be issuing recovery notices to arrested accused. While we are waiting for the police to arrest the alleged accused at the earliest," said Singh.
INFLATED PRICE
According to the police, the accused Ramesh Bansal inflated land price in Mathura that actually had no utility, was on the run from the last six months.
