Girl manhandles eve-teasers for passing obscene comments at Gaffar Market

A 20-year old girl confronted two men who passed lewd remarks at her while she was travelling on a rickshaw in Central Delhi's busy Gaffar Market on Sunday. The girl manhandled the duo after she was fed up with their stares and remarks. The police were informed and they were arrested.

According to the police, the accused men have been identified as Manish and Abhishek. The two belong to the Charkhi Dadri area in Haryana. The incident occurred when the girl along with a friend had gone to the market to get her father's phone repaired. While she was on her way, she spotted two men constantly passing indecent comments at her.

In a video of the girl that went viral, she is seen saying,"There were three boys in another rickshaw. They used obscene language and made indecent gestures at me. I ignored it five to six times". Both the rickshaws were next to each other in the traffic jam when the boys continued passing lewd remarks at the girl.

The girl later decided to confront the boys who in turn abused her. "One of his friends tried to help him escape. I thank the public for helping me catch hold of one of them. Initially, I was scared, but the public supported me. I thank the Delhi Police for taking appropriate action against them," the girl said in the video.

The girl then caught hold of one of them and manhandled him. People surrounded her and video-graphed her as she abused him for his actions. The guy was allegedly rubbing his chest with his hand as he kept looking at the girl. The girl kept on holding the boy by his collar and simultaneously called the police up from her mobile phone. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered.

More than 10 women, on an average, were either raped or molested every day in the national Capital in the first month of 2018, a Delhi Police data accessed by DNA revealed. At least 350 women also fell victim to rape and molestation in January alone, with 141 cases of rape and 209 cases of molestation, according to the data. Ironically, of the 141 registered cases of rape, only 90 have been solved. Even cases of molestation have seen only half of them being with the number standing at 106.
