DELHI
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Triloki Nath (55) and his son Vikas Tiwari (21)
A 55-year-old man and his 21-year-old son died after their Celerio car hit another speeding Mahindra XUV in south-east Delhi’s Jaitpur area and caught fire after the collision during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Police said seven other people were also injured in the accident.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Triloki Nath (55) and his son Vikas Tiwari(21). The incident took place at 12 in the midnight when Nath and six of his family members were returning from a wedding ceremony in their Celerio.
“When they reached the Meetapur area, a speeding Mahindra XUV collided with their car. A patrolling police van was on duty on the Agra canal road that witnessed the accident and reached the spot. The policemen along with the help of locals then rescued the victims from the cars,” said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East).
Police then immediately rushed the injured to a nearby hospital where Nath and his son were declared brought dead on arrival while the other seven injured people are still undergoing treatment.
“Prima facie, it appears both the cars were reportedly speeding and the impact of the crash killed the father-son duo, while seven others were injured,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, they have recorded the statements of the 4 people who were injured while three others, including the deceased’s son and owner of the Mahindra car, are admitted in the Intense Care Unit and were unfit for any statement.
“We have registered a case under section 304A (Causing death by negligence), 337(Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are underway,” Biswal added.
