Fake doctor caught by AIIMS security

For the second time this month, a person impersonating a doctor was caught by the security staff of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday. The accused had impersonated to gain favours in the treatment of one of his relatives admitted to the hospital.

The police said that the matter came to the fore when RS Rawat, deputy chief security officer of AIIMS reported that their security guards have apprehended a man roaming around the hospital impersonating a doctor. The man was identified as Ram Kishan Gupta, a resident of Rajpur Khurd in the Chhattarpur area.

"He had been posing as a faculty in the orthopedic department in Trauma Centre, AIIMS. Upon being questioned by the police, he disclosed that he did his MBBS in 2000 and MS in 2006 from Delhi. One stethoscope was also recovered from his possession. He confessed that he did so to gain favour for the treatment of his relative," said Romil Baaniya, DCP south, adding that a case under section 419 IPC has been registered.

Only in the first week of February, an FIR was lodged by AIIMS after another person impersonated a doctor and was noticed at the main surgical emergency pretending to be a Trauma Centre Orthopedics Department faculty. The incident had then raised concerns about the security at the country's largest medical institution.

With regard to this incident in a letter to the chief security officer, Dr Vijay Gurjar, senior resident, Geriatric Medicine wrote, "He did not have an ID-card and upon asking some details, smiled and left the Emergency ward. 
It is becoming a daily nuisance, so please issue a circular among the AIIMS staff to display ID cards and issue instructions to the security guards to check everyone's ID card." The on-duty doctor called me and expressed his concerns that he is suspicious, so we enquired about him with our security officials and informed the control room of AIIMS," he had said.

On scanning CCTV footages, it was noticed that the man was not a doctor and was also seen at the Hindu Rao Hospital in August last year. Taking an action on the complaint letter, an FIR was lodged calling the man an impostor and someone involved in corrupt practices.

Earlier in January 2016, a 37-year-old impostor was arrested at Safdarjung Hospital for trying to pass off as a senior faculty of AIIMS Trauma Centre. The man had forced the resident doctors to admit patients and had even pulled out a fake identity card and forged stamps.
