Police said the hospital where the man's wife had rushed him informed them about the incident.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that around 1 pm, the man aimed his pistol on the left side of his chest and shot himself.

The bullet punctured his heart before exiting from the back. He succumbed on the spot, police said.

The man's wife and children were present in the house at the time of the incident.

No suicide note was recovered from his possession.

Senior police officers said the woman told police that her husband was depressed due to a recent financial loss.

"The drastic step was taken probably due to ongoing financial problems. A crime and forensics team was rushed to the spot. The man's colleagues and relatives are being questioned to know more. The incident is being probed from every angle and the body has been sent for post-mortem," DCP (southwest) Surender Kumar said.
