National capital and its nearby areas were hit by a spell of dust storm and heavy rains on Wednesday, bringing relief to Delhi-NCR where resident have been facing hot and humid weather.
This is pre-monsoon rains as the monsoon is yet to arrive in Delhi. Monsoon had hit Kerala on June 1 on its normal onset date.
The India Meteorological Department said thunderstorm with light rain accompanied with gusty winds of the speed of 40-50 kmph occurred over Delhi-NCR. This was due to the influence of cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and through running from North Pakistan to low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
Earlier on Wednesday, Skymet Weather had warned of spell of dust storm and thundershower with gusty winds at some places near the national capital including Faridabad and Gurugram.
Last week, the India Meteorological Department said rainfall activity is expected in different parts of the country over the week as conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon.
The weather department said that conditions are becoming favourable for monsoon's further advancement into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Southwest & Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, entire Southeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of Westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 2 days.
