A 19-year-old girl, who worked as a domestic help, allegedly committed suicide at the residence of a retired colonel in South Delhi’s Defence Colony area on Thursday afternoon. Police said that no suicide note has been found from the spot.

According to the police, they received a PCR call at around 2:15 pm regarding the suicide of a girl. 

“On reaching the spot, the police team found that a girl, identified as Pooja, working at a retired colonel’s house in Defence Colony, was found hanging with a dupatta from the ceiling fan at the basement of the building,” said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South). 

Police said that the retired colonel has been identified as B S Bhandari. “ As per the deceased’s aunt, the girl had been working at the colonel’s house for over a year. 

Bhandari was with his wife and grandson at home when this incident took place at around 2:15 pm. The girl was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the basement area,” said Baaniya

Police said that they have informed the family of the girl and kept the body for post-mortem which is likely to take place on Friday. 

In the meantime, the employer of the deceased is being questioned.
