A day after doctors from 40 Delhi government hospitals went on mass leave, an umbrella body of resident doctors has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to solve the problem of violence against medicos. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) also sought a meeting with the PM to discuss the issue.

The resident doctors association will have a meeting on Sunday after which they will decide the further course of action. "If needed, we will go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday. The decision will be finalised on Sunday. Till then, no doctor from Delhi government hospital is on strike," said a member of FORDA.

FORDA, in its letter, said that it has brought down their "morale". They said that they want to work and serve but "not risking their lives ".

"For registering an FIR, or even a complaint we have to undergo lot of harassment. We opted this profession to serve the people. But we have now become victim of violence, which is not acceptable," FORDA President Pankaj Solanki said in the letter.

On Friday, more than 20,000 doctors working in various private hospitals and clinics associated with Delhi Medical Association (DMA) also went on leave.

"We have offered our support to the doctors in Maharashtra. More than 20,000 doctors were on a leave on Friday and we will continue to support the doctors. Till the time, the Maharashtra government doesn't take a stand, we will not let this movement slow down," said Dr. Ashwani Goyal, secretary, DMA.

Meanwhile, resident doctors at AIIMS continued wearing helmets while treating the patients in their outpatient department. The doctors also carried out a funeral of the health state in their campus.
