DNA CAMPAIGN: Man masturbates in bus, Delhi University student posts video on social media

The recent incident of a man masturbating in a moving DTC bus while being seated next to a Delhi University female student has once again raised doubts over the safety and security of women in the national Capital.

The latest incident in the DTC bus was also recorded on the mobile phone by the victim. The DU student later posted the video on social media in order to make sure that more and more women speak up on issues like this and even report it to the police. The 23-year old victim in her post on social media said: " I just want that person to be arrested as soon as possible. And the video was a message to those people who are just doing wrong things to women, now it's a wake-up time women, we have to stand up for ourselves,". She further stated that such things are not normal and should be treated with utmost seriousness. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered in the case.

While such cases are being registered by the victims to the Delhi Police on a regular basis, there are hardly any arrests or action taken in these cases.

In December last year, a language school teacher who worked in the heart of the national Capital, Connaught Place had to face a similar experience when she was on a break during her office hours. A man groped her, unzipped his pants, and flashed his private parts in front of her while she was talking on the phone. The accused who was wearing a hood snatched her mobile phone also before fleeing.

A case was later registered on her complaint but the accused is yet to be arrested even after two months have passed since the incident took place. The police officials had questioned hundreds of persons and even pasted sketches of the accused in the city but yet failed to nab the accused.

As per the statistics in the year 2017, 621 cases of insult to the modesty of a woman were reported in comparison to 894 in the year 2016.

A 32-year-old woman was molested by a man who also masturbated in front of her and fled after snatching her phone in Lutyens’ Delhi. The woman, who works at a language school, had gone to the office terrace for a break from work.
