Thursday was a nighmare for the millions of citizens of Delhi-NCR as air pollution crossed alarming levels with the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram being 'hazardous' or 'severe' across all locations monitored.
Delhiites seemed to have not learnt any lesson and continued bursting crackers even the day after Diwali. Sounds of bombs, laaris and rockets were heard in Delhi-NCR. Despite the Delhi police taking all measures to ensure that no one violates the SC order, their claims fell flat. 2000 kilo crackers were seized.

However, people did not seem to have learned about the poor air quality and many continued to burst crackers, violating the Supreme Court order.
Police said that they received 260 Police Control Room calls about bursting of firecrackers from 8pm on Thursday till 8 am on Friday. Residents from various parts of the NCR including areas like DND, Mayur Vihar, Dilshad Garden, Shalimar Bagh and Rohini claimed that they could hear the noise of firecrackers.
Police said a total of 63 cases were registered on Thursday. 40 were reported from north-east district, 5 were registered in Dwarka, 13 cases were registered in South East district and 5 were registered in Rohini district for bursting firecrackers.
"By bursting crackers the people are harming their own health. We are sure there were more violations than the number of cases lodged but it is not manually possible to monitor every place where norms are being flouted," said a senior police officer.
The pleas of the government and anti-pollution crusaders were drowned in the noise and smoke of the firecrackers as people ignored the Supreme Court deadline, bursting crackers well beyond the 10 PM limit set by the apex court resulting in the catastrophic rise in pollution level today.
